Program and Operations Manager 

Congregation Shma Koleinu is a Jewish community in Houston, Texas that exists to serve you along with all other Jews, Jewish families and those who love them with high quality Jewish programming, meaningful spiritual experiences, opportunities for personal growth, and a visionary voice.


Are you a Jack of all Trades? Do you like engaging with a wide variety of personalities, organizing events, and managing volunteers? Do you have strong communication skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects with volunteers effectively? Are you detail oriented, confident with technology, managing a unique database (ShulCloud), preparing and sending electronic communication? Are you able to manage money, create and maintain budgets and financial reports? And are you able to keep a sense of humor when things don’t go as planned? If so, Congregation Shma Koleinu has an immediate opening for a highly motivated, energetic, creative and organized Program and Operations Manager.


  • Program Management
    • Coordinate and implement all aspects of congregational worship services and celebrations (including: weekly Shabbat services, High Holy Days, Passover, Purim, Sukkot/Simchat Torah, and Hanukah) in person and online (Zoom, YouTube, Facebook, and ROKU)
    • Coordinate Congregational meetings, Torah study, activities, and other programming
    • Administrative Projects/Support
      • Manage calendar, website, and CM/database; Interface with web host and technical support
      • Create and update budgets and financial reports
      • Serve as primary liaison with venues
      • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with Rabbi and lay leadership team
      • ACH and check deposits
      • Purchasing
      • Request and coordinate services of vendors, as needed
      • Maintain confidential and sensitive information
    • Communication and Technology
      • Communicate effectively with Rabbi, leadership team, congregants, vendors, and community members
      • Weekly e-blasts, newsletters with graphics
      • Facilitate virtual meetings, ensuring proper set up and recordings
      • Mass mailings (membership/donors)
      • Social media
    • Other tasks as assigned


  • Candidates must possess:
    • Strong verbal, writing, and listening skills
    • Excellent organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
    • Ability to think creatively
    • High attention to detail
    • Experience in Microsoft office suite (particularly Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher), Adobe Suite, Canva, and CRM software
    • A professional and mature demeanor and demonstrated ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information and exercise sound judgement
    • Ability to motivate volunteers
    • Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work as a team/collaborate with others
    • College degree and two years of non-profit experience or comparable combination of education and work experience
    • Ability to stand and walk around for extended periods of time is required. Employee may also need to squat or bend, reach outward or upward to effectively discharge job duties. Job incumbent must be able to lift/carry and/or push/pull up to 30 lbs.
  • Position reports to: Rabbi
  • Salaried/three quarters time, average of 20-30 hours per week; flexible.  Job demands increase around holidays, school year.  Much lighter in summer. 
  • Salary range: Negotiable
  • Primary work location: Work from home and “on location.”  Because CSK is a synagogue with no building, we rent venues with storage and a good amount of programming takes place at different locations around central Houston. 
  • Some evenings and weekends required.
