Mit in drinnen

Mit in drinnen – In Yiddish, this means, “In the middle of everything,”  I don’t know if, for today, this refers to Racial Injustice and Protests in the midst of COVID-19, or as it has felt to me over the past week, COVID-19 in the midst of racial injustice and protests.  Whichever it is, this blog is a clarion call to us all that WE ARE NOT OUT OF THE WOODS with either.  I don’t need to articulate for you the stark images and events taking place in US streets.  But ironically, it does feel that it is incumbent on us all to recognize that COVID-19 is still a real threat.  I know its tiring and I know it’s annoying.  I know it is life altering, and sometimes it’s a real pain in the rear. I know it.  The good news is that Houston and Harris County are managing COVID-19 well.  But it is ONLY because of social distancing, mask-wearing, and hand-washing.

So please do not give in to impatience or the news sources that tells you what you want to hear.  It is not safe to be living in our world without these precautions.  Consider that there is an ultimate Mitzvah involved – Pikuach Nefesh – saving life.  The life you save may be your own.
