Rabbi Scott Hausman-Weiss

Hey CSK, what are you waiting for?

This coming October 2nd marks CSK’s 11 th High Holy Days season. Our first year was at the Power Center, the next 9 years were at Emery Weiner.

This year, CSK’s renowned High Holy Days experience will take place in the Kaplan Theater at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center.

I know that perhaps you and others have mostly traded out the “pew” for your couch, perhaps even “surfing” from one synagogue to another. I appreciate that. BUT! You know that few virtual experiences are as impactful as those we do in person.
So I am asking you to take a chance.

Take a chance on CSK (if you’ve never been before) and
Take a chance on the “in-person” experience and we will make it worth the effort.

We don’t take it for granted that OF COURSE people will just come to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. This is why we plan for months; this is why they are led by remarkable leaders: 7-year High Holy Day soloist, Hannah Madeleine Goodman, 20+ year veteran rabbi, Rabbi Laura Sheinkopf, musicians at the top of their craft, including pianist, Andrew Lienhard, woodwind performer, Kelly Dean, cellist, Daphnee Johnson, guitarist, Darrell Lacy, and trumpet player and shofar sounder, Leo Hernandez, and me, (*Dr.h.c.) Rabbi Scott Hausman-Weiss (*after 25 years, they give you a “Doctorate, honorary causa.” I won’t use it often but this year, I get to say, “the rabbi doctor is in the house!”

My most important point is this: you don’t have to be practicing, knowledgeable, spiritual, or even Jewish to get a ton out of our High Holy Days journey.
All you need is to be human.

Have you had successes and failures this past year?

Have you hit the mark on how you wish to live and treat those closest to you? And when you’ve missed it, have you fixed things and realigned to do better?

Have you offered forgiveness to those you love, who perhaps aren’t who you imagined them to be and who would love your appreciation for who they are?

Have you loved, lived, meditated, dreamed, hoped, prayed, imagined, changed, succeeded, and failed this year? I imagine so.

So what are you waiting for? Time to sign up to join us…because you already belong.
