Hear Our Voice

In the heady (or hazy) days of CSK’s beginnings, somebody said, “Look, Houston doesn’t need another regular Jewish congregation. What would make us different?”

Unlike clubs, or consumer memberships, or organizations, with special-access premiums, Congregation Shma Koleinu’s essence is indeed summed up with, “Join us, you already belong.”

A bit more than 11 years into our story, CSK continues to rewrite what synagogue “membership” means. One of the driving themes I have discovered over these past 11 years is the “Cause” to which we are committed. 

Now there are challenges to a religious, educational, and social organization with no fixed address. Scheduling, communication, storage, and the shlepp of it all is demanding. However, there is a freedom that pervades CSK and allows us to focus on the “Cause” that we represent.  

What is that “Cause?” Serving you. Saying yes. Meeting you where you and your loved ones where you are – from babies to teens to adults – from learning to spiritual uplift to compassion in mourning – from the High Holy Days to Chanukah to Passover – CSK is here for you all year long. Today, I am asking you to continue to show up for us.

This “Cause” of Jewish life is provided to our community at a fraction of the cost required for traditional bricks and mortar institutions. And while that cost might be a fraction, it is still a fraction of a large number. Thus, we need your help.
