Interfaith Ministries Refugee Services - Save One Life
The Talmud teaches, "To save one life is as to save an entire world." CSK and HCRJ (Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism) are community sponsors with Interfaith Ministries in welcoming a refugee family from around the world into our Houston Community.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
(FOR THE STEPS TO BECOME A REFUGEE SERVICES VOLUNTEER AS WELL AS DETAILS REGARDING OUR "APARTMENT SETUP DRIVE DURING ROSH HASHANAH AND YOM KIPPUR", SCROLL DOWN).
Who: We are looking for volunteers who want to make a positive impact on the lives of Refugee families
How Can You Help? We are preparing to greet our new family in November and looking for volunteers with interest in these areas:
- School Enrollment for children
- Teaching English
- Transportation
- Setting up an apartment with furnishings and kitchen items
- Helping with applications and paperwork for other governmental services
- Visiting the family 1- 2 times per week=
- Fundraising
- Help with clothing and other household necessities
- Please start collecting the following items:
- Toiletries, kitchenware, clothes, cleaning supplies
- Personal Hygiene items, Bedding, towels

Steps to become a Refugee Services Volunteer for CSK Co-Sponsorship - MUST BE COMPLETED BY OCTOBER 15, 2023
STEP #1: Set up a Volunteer Profile
- To complete Step #1, you will need to upload digital copies of your photo ID, driver’s license, and car insurance.

STEP #2: Complete a $10 Sterling Volunteer background check (link will be emailed to you within 48 hours after completing step #1).
- Background checks are good for two years.
- If you have not received the Sterling Volunteer email link to complete a background check, check your spam folder.
- If the link is not in your spam folder, please email Lili Bauerlein to request the link (lbauerlein@imgh.org).
STEP #3: Complete a 30 minute online anti child abuse training (link will be emailed to you after completing step #2).

Items to donate are the following:
KITCHEN-(We will stock the food pantry later)
Cookware- simple pots and pans
Drinkware
Flatware
Dishes
Knives
Oven Mitts, kitchen towels
Trash can, trash bags
Dish Detergent
Small Kitchen Appliances
Cooking Tools
Living Areas Furniture
Note: We will not collect furniture until late October, but please let us know if you have any of these items to donate:
Couch
Coffee table
Kitchen table with chairs
Furniture-not yet
Kitchen Table- not yet
Lamps
Beds – a queen and likely single beds or a bunk bed (we cannot take used mattresses. We will have to purchase new mattresses to go on the beds.)
Area rugs
Bathroom and Bedroom
Hygiene Products, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste brushes, combs
Towels, Sheets, Blankets, Pillows
Laundry Basket
Laundry Detergent
Please bring bags filled with any of these items either at Services at Emery Weiner or HCRJ.
Do not worry about repeating.
Currently, we are not collecting furniture, but please tell us what you have. We will either pick it up, closer to November or we will have a drop-off place.
