Art Exploration led by Deborah Horwitz and Ilana Reisz

We invite you to explore the meaning of these High Holidays through a creative process. Set aside some time to open your heart and mind in this meditative and expressive process. No previous art-making experience is required.  This is a time to play with color and imagination.

Please prepare a space on which you can spread a sheet of paper approximately 9”x12” and gather any of supplies you have on hand (no need to purchase – use what you have at home).

Materials:

  • A few sheets of paper (about 9x12 inches) of white or colorful paper. You can use watercolor paper, multimedia paper or construction paper
  • Colorful markers, a regular pencil, colored pencils, pen, watercolor set, or other paints

We will briefly demonstrate how we can use these materials in a few ways to create a visual expression. Come ready to get your hands dirty and have a relaxing and enriching experience.

Deborah Horwitz
Deborah started doing art as soon as she could hold a crayon!  She was in her first art show at age 6 at the JCC and has continued making and exhibiting art ever since.
Deborah taught art for 15 years at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School and The Emery Weiner School, combining her love of art and children.  She is a member of a group of artists working in Armando Rodriquez’ printmaking studio.

Ilana Reisz

Ilana has been making art in various media as a form of play throughout most of her life. For the past 12 years, her focus has been on printmaking and the fun of creating monotypes, linocut prints, and collages. She is also a part of a group of artists working in Armando Rodriquez’ printmaking studio in Houston.
